NASCAR Sprint Cup Driver Mark Martin Is A Boomer Poster Boy
NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Mark Martin is fast becoming a baby boomer poster boy. Fast is the key word. He is our version of roller skating babies. He works out like a maniac, than kicks a ton of young butt. I feel a year younger every time he wins a race, and no, you do not have to share the math son. I am sure this victory was well received in Auburn, NE.
Mark Martin and Jeff Gordon finishing 1-2 in a Sprint Cup race means TV gets to interview the HEAD Of The NASCAR Class. Of course they always seem to interview Denny Hamlin. Telling it like I see it, Hamlin is a punk racer who does not have the
dis-likability of Kyle Busch. When Busch is on TV you want to yell, scream, and flip off the screen. When Hamlin is on you just think “what an —hole.”
For being a three time champion it seems like Jimmy Johnson gets involved in way to many on track “incidents.” I never thought I would say this, and I realize it is now in cyberspace forever but not only am I liking Tony Stewart, I do not mind Kurt Busch. He has become far less irritating in the past few years. Plus he is a Cubs fan.
While I was involved watching all of the craziness at the front of the race, friend Tony Anville was watching the back packers, and complained of Dale Jr. taking out Paul Menard. I won’t, ‘er can’t, repeat all he said, but I don’t think Tony is joining the Jr. Nation anytime soon.
Next up for the Sprint Cup series goes to Indianapolis, where exec Tony George was kicked out of his leadership position by other family members on the board. Good for them, and don’t get my started on Tony George.
Don’t get me started on George, because I would rather comment on another NASCAR Sprint Cup driver. Tonight Matt and I have a choice of going to Albion to see a WDRL show with a $1,000 to win IMCA mods as the support class, or going to I-80 Speedway to see Carl Edwards for about the 10th straight year. Guess which one we are going to?
You are right, Albion. The WDRL is our favorite series, and many of the top IMCA mods are expected to race for a big purse and national IMCA points. Both tracks are charging $20 admission, but it seems to me the Albion show is a much better value. First, Edwards is not racing. I am Jack Roush is very much limiting Edward’s late model time after his 2007 incident in Greenwood, but his not racing seems to drop his value to the show. At least in my opinion. Edwards has been reluctant in the past to sign autographs. I do remember one year he did not sign any at the Greenwood track. Plus he is going to arrive late-he has a commitment to play in a softball game in St. Louis as a part of MLB’s All-Star game entertainment. So, if all I get for an additional $10 is watching Carl Edward’s be interviewed, why bother? I can see that on TV for free more times than I want to watch. Oh well, I am sure the couch potato fans will still show up in droves.
Like I said, Matt and I are heading northwest to Albion. I love the old fairgrounds track, I love the WDRL late models, and damned if I don’t love the IMCA mods too. Who would have thought that? Tomorrow night we are going to Ft. Dodge, IA for another WDRL show. I am not sure how this old body is going to take another 3:00 a.m. night, but I guess we’ll find out.
Thanks for stopping by.

Now if we can just turn around your thoughts on sprinters we make a real race fan out of you yet.

Grg-I am trying. Honest. It is just that for years and years I found it difficult to call a vehicle with wings and no starter a race car.
